Privacy at loop.video
The short version
Your clips and your music never leave your device. The looper is a web page that does all of its work inside your browser tab: it reads the file you choose, builds the loop and saves the result back to you. We have no copy, no server that could receive one and no account to tie one to. To understand which parts of the site are useful, we count visits, and the one counter that sets cookies can be switched off from any page.
Your video, music and loops
When you open a video or GIF, your browser decodes it on your device. Finding a loop point means comparing tiny, low-resolution copies of the frames; those copies are made and thrown away in your browser. The export, including any music you add, is encoded by your browser and offered to you as a download or through your phone’s share sheet. No frames, sound, file names, durations of your music or loop settings tied to your file are sent to loop.video or to anyone else.
What is kept in your browser
- The latest export. Long loops can run to gigabytes, so the finished file is written to your browser’s private file storage (the Origin Private File System) rather than held in memory. Only the newest export is kept there: starting another export deletes the previous one. Clearing this site’s data in your browser settings removes it straight away.
- Your theme (light, dark or automatic), stored as
vt-themein local storage, so the page looks the way you chose next time. - Your analytics choice, stored as
vt-consentin local storage, so the cookie notice doesn’t keep coming back and an objection stays in force.
None of these is sent anywhere. They stay until you clear this site’s data.
Files fetched from elsewhere
Most videos open with your browser’s own decoders. When a file uses a format your browser can’t read, the page can download a converter, ffmpeg.wasm, from unpkg.com (a public code library mirror) and convert the file on your device. That download reveals your IP address and browser details to unpkg.com and its hosting provider, as any web request does; your video is not part of it. The fonts and icons on this site are served from loop.video itself.
Hosting
loop.video is served by Cloudflare. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, Cloudflare’s servers handle each request, including your IP address and browser details, and keep short-lived logs. We rely on our legitimate interest in running a fast, secure website for this. Cloudflare explains its practices in its privacy policy.
Counting visits
Cloudflare Web Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics tell us how many people visit and which pages they read. Neither sets cookies or builds a profile of you.
We also use Google Analytics 4. It records the pages you view and a short list of product events, such as “a loop was exported as MP4”, “Find the best loop finished with a good match” or “music was added”, with rounded numbers like the length in whole seconds or the file size in broad bands. It never receives your video, its pictures or sound, your music, file names or anything you type. We use it only to see which features and guides help people. Advertising features are off: Google signals is disabled, every advertising consent signal is denied, and the property isn’t linked to any advertising product. Event data is kept for 14 months.
Google processes this data for us and may transfer it to the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Our basis is legitimate interests (understanding and improving the site), and for the cookies, the statistical-purposes exception in the UK’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. Visitors in the EU, EEA and Switzerland are treated differently: analytics cookies stay off for them and Google receives only cookieless pings.
Cookies and switching them off
Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<id>,
which last up to two years. On your first visit a small notice tells you this. You can
object at any time: choose Cookie settings
in the footer of any page and press Turn off analytics. Your choice is
remembered in this browser and takes effect immediately; Turn analytics on
reverses it. If your browser sends a
Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it
as an objection: analytics stay off and the notice isn’t shown. We don’t sell personal
data and we show no ads.
Who runs loop.video
loop.video is an independent, self-funded project. There are no user accounts, and we hold no record about you beyond the aggregated statistics described above.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for access to personal data about you, its correction or deletion, a restriction on its use, a copy in a portable format, and you can object to its processing. Because your files never reach us, there is nothing about your videos to access or delete; the analytics data is pseudonymous and you can stop it at any time with Turn off analytics, or delete the cookies in your browser. You can also complain to a data protection authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
